Southern Star RV Park campground started in 2002. We started out with a twelve RV sites at 2260 Southern Star Circle in Chatham Mississippi. In 2004 we ended up purchasing 1940 Lake Washington Road East and in 2005 opened up Southern Star RV Park 2 and Bait n Thangs. 2007 Bait n Thangs was moved into the building it is now and that is when we started to become the full bait shop selling minnows and full lines of bait and tackle.

Over the years we have hosted numerous crappie, bass, and catfish tournaments. There have been multiple TV spots shot at the Bait n Thangs location. Some of these are “Food On The Run”, “Crappie Kings TV”, and “Crappie Masters TV”. One of the crappie tournaments that we host and run is called “Big Momma”. This tournament started in 2002 and has grown every year since.

Being a local business owner, we are constantly trying to promote Lake Washington the home of the 4 pound crappie to increase tourism and bring as many folks as we can to come and enjoy Lake Washington and all it has to offer.

Crappie in Lake Washington that weigh 3 pounds or more have declined over the past years but they are slowly making a comeback. The four- and five-pound crappies are still in the lake but they will make you work hard to get them in the boat because most of the time you hook them but they don’t stay hooked.

Services we provide at Southern Star RV Park 2:

 – We have 28 RV sites (6 are 50amp and all of the sites are full hook up)

 – We have six cabins it at the southern star 2 location

 – All of our cabins will accommodate two or more people.

 – Each cabin come equipped with refrigerator, microwave, cook top, coffee pot, TV, and linens.

 – We do not provide pots, pans, glasses, plates, or silverware.

Bait n Thangs tackle store is fully equipped with live and artificial bait for you to choose from. We also carry Crappy Monster Jigs, Slider Jigs, Brush Pile Jigs, Grenade Tackle Jig Heads, Pico Tackle and Lures, and local hair jigs that are made here and used by locals to catch crappie.

We have a full line of ACC Crappie Stiks and Ozark Rods. Both of these brands we carry rods up to 16 feet in length. Along with the 2 crappie rod lines we carry an assortment of other casting and trolling rods that are used on this lake.
